Children are fascinated by watching seeds sprout. This is true especially when seeds are sprouting quickly. Alfalfa is an easy-to-grow seed that should develop within a week. To watch the seeds germinate by sprinkling a few alfalfa seedlings on a sheet of damp paper towel.

You'll Need:

a packet of alfalfa seeds (about 1.5g)

A small plate or saucer

Three pieces of paper towel

A small or spray mister water container

How to Grow:

Wet 3 pieces of paper towels, then lay them on top each other flat on a table.

Drain the water off the plate. The paper towel must be moist, however the seeds must not be floating in water.

Spread the seeds out evenly on the paper towel.

Place on a sunny windowsill and add water to prevent the paper towel from drying out. You can use spray bottles or misters to moisten the seeds or you can add a small amount of water to the saucer by using an ice cube or a small cup.

Check your seeds every day to see how they're developing.

Troubleshooting

Alfalfa seeds are simple to grow and should germinate within 2-6 days. Here are some issues to keep an eye on in the event that your seeds do not germinate in this period.

Too dry Seeds require water in order to develop. Alfalfa seeds soak approximately half their weight in water before they germinate, which makes them appear to be swollen. If the seeds you have are too dry they will not sprout. Incorporate more water into the plate until the seeds are wet but not floating in the water. It is also possible to soak the seeds for a few hours. Just make sure to remove them and wash them thoroughly before transferring them to a towel.

Too moistIf the seeds are damp, their roots and shoots may rot before they are able to develop. It's also possible that mould could begin to develop on the seeds. While it's perfectly acceptable for the paper towel as well as the seeds to remain damp but they shouldn't submerge in water. If you're cultivating your seeds in winter, بذور الملوخية you can put them in a warm spot indoors. It is possible that you will need to water your seeds more frequently when they are grown in extreme temperatures. They'll dry out quicker.
