Children enjoy watching seeds germinate. This is especially the case when seeds germinate quickly. Alfalfa ( Medicago sativa) is a very easy to grow seed that can develop in the next week. Sprinkle a little amount of alfalfa seeds over a damp newspaper towel and watch the seeds germinate and grow.

What you'll need:

A package of Alfalfa seed (about 1.5g).

A small bowl or small plate

Three paper towels

A small spray mister or water container

How to Grow:

Lay 3 sheets of towel on a dish.

After that, you should drain the water off the plate. The paper towel must be damp but the seeds should not be floating in water.

Place the seeds in a uniform manner on the towel.

Put the paper towel on a sunny window and add water to prevent the towel from drying. It is possible to use a mister or spray bottle to soak the seeds or you can add a small amount of water to the saucer by using either a small cup or jug.

Every day, check your seeds to see how they're growing.

Troubleshooting

Alfalfa is an easy to cultivate seed that will sprout in between 2 and 6 days. If the seeds don't germinate during this time there are a few possibilities of what could have gone wrong:

Too dry. Seeds require water to develop. Alfalfa seeds absorb about their weight in water prior to they germinate, and look swollen. If your seeds are dry, they won't sprout. To make sure the seeds don't sink in water, add some more to your plate. It is also possible to soak the seeds overnight. Make sure you remove them and wash them well before transferring them to a towel.

Too moistIf the seeds are moist, شكل بذور الملوخية the new shoots and roots could become rotten before they are able to develop. It's also possible that mould can begin to grow around the seeds. It's OK for the paper towel to be moist but the seeds should not be floating on water. Each time you water or mist the seeds, drain the excess water.

Too hot or cold: The best temperature for alfalfa's growth is 20-25 degrees Celsius. If you're cultivating your seeds indoors in winter, شكل بذور الملوخية set them in a warm location. If you are growing your seeds in extremely warm temperatures, you might need to water your seeds more frequently since they'll dry out quicker.
